Metabolic typing Theory

Metabolic typing

Metabolic typing is the science of personalized nutrition. It is a accurate system for determining which foods your body needs.

Discovering your metabolic type is the single biggest health measure you can take and the most effective way to lose weight. Metabolic typing answers the foundational questions of nutrition by telling you:

• What to eat
• How much to eat
• What foods to specifically avoid
• All other aspects of nutrition including supplements, food quality etc

To make these recommendations the science of metabolic typing has been rapidly developing from the pioneering work of many researchers throughout the last fifty years.

Metabolic typing recognizes that there are ten fundamental control systems within the human body. Each of these systems determines the way the chemical reactions occur within your body.

To achieve and maintain true health the control systems must be brought into balance. Failure to do this leads to faulty metabolism within the cells which is the cause of health complaints. Being overweight is a sign of faulty metabolism.

Answering the big questions in nutrition, metabolic typing determines:

What to eat?

It is the influence of the main two control systems that determines which foods your body needs. All my clients undergo a metabolic typing test which reveals where their body lies upon these two systems. This directs us to the metabolic typing diet plan that will give you the exact foods and nutrients you require to lose weight, improve energy and health.

How much to eat?

We all have a unique and specific ideal fuel mix. This is the amount of food that allows the body to effectively utilize and produce energy.
When you eat the right foods in the right ratios of protein, carbohydrate and fat you will experience a sense of high energy and mental focus while avoiding food cravings, energy drops or frequent hunger.

To discover the right amounts of food I coach my clients to tune into their bodies and find the answer out for themselves. Metabolic typing uses the ideal fuel mix and body language signals as a key criteria for success along with eating the right foods for your body. (As defined by your metabolic type).

What foods should I specifically avoid?

It is essential you ensure any food sensitivities or intolerances are addressed within your diet. Eating foods that your body has trouble processing can make weight loss impossible and cause a number of unwanted health symptoms. Food intolerance's are very common and undermine all efforts to be healthy.

The metabolic typing test also looks at the pattern of where you store fat on your body. The way you store fat has implications on weight loss and food cravings.
I am sure you have noticed how some people store fat all over their body, on their hands, face etc while others gain fat just on their stomach. There are other characteristic patterns to these and they represent the behaviour of your endocrine glands within your body. e.g. thyroid, adrenal etc.

The endocrine glands are stimulated by certain foods. When these foods are eaten in excess over a prolonged period they can exhaust your dominant gland. This can lead to low thyroid or adrenal fatigue and be the cause of unwanted fat storage and poor health.
Finally, metabolic typing allows you to use the influences of your blood type to avoid certain foods. There are certain foods that can interact with specific blood types to cause unwanted health complaints.

Please note that metabolic typing is far in advance of the well known eat right for your blood type book and is fundamentally different. For more information on this read my article on a comparison of metabolic typing and all the major diets

Other nutritional issues

The metabolic typing research has also covered the effects of the other issues surrounding nutrition and lifestyle. This includes food quality, supplements, cooking techniques and other factors such environmental influences. e.g. sleep , sun, toxins etc. This allows you to further safeguard your health and optimize your body fat levels.

Summary.

Metabolic typing is the most advanced nutrition system in the world as it is the only one that effectively and accurately classifies the differences between people.
It provides an answer to what, how much and what not to eat. It is the most important and biggest health measure you can take and the fastest and most effective ways to lose weight.

Today I take a more global look at fitness, preparation and performance improvement. For a long time it has been a drive in me to try and change the way team sessions are conducted.

In my experience training is usually stale, monotonous and fairly ineffective. I don't know how many tackle pads I have driven back over the years but I did note how it never improved my tackling.

Read my article today to consider if there could be improvements to be made within your club. Forward on to your coach if you think it could help.

The second article overviews how you should be looking to approach improving your rugby performance. It outlines everything from the different types of training through to the impact of nutrition and the mind. It is certainly a thought provoking article.

I hope you are looking forward to the 6 nations like I am. My fingers are crossed that Wales can pull of a win in Twickers.

Hope your training is going well

One2one nutrition news

In this week's newsletter I start with five very effective and simple measures you can put in place to kick start any weight loss attempt. Despite making resolutions to lose weight this year many people have not yet started their efforts while others are just giving up. Either way take a read of these five effective and powerful recommendations.

The second article is a subject that has been a focus for my personal training in London and around the world for many years - Teaching people to run.

There is no better exercise to make you feel fitter day in day out. Assuming your body is in good function to be able to run without joint pain then follow the advice I have given in the article today.

If you do suffer joint pain when running then you can usually sort this out quite easily with a clever strengthening and stretching programme. Please see my website for information on this.

The final article is one from the EFT website but it focuses more on a general view point people take to health. Ask yourself if you main goal in health is avoiding pain, illness and the like or is it to be bouncing on top of the world with great energy and vitality. There is a big difference between these two view points. The article describes this effectively.

I hope you are continuing to enjoy these free newsletters.

If you would like further support consider my personal training in London (Clapham) or metabolic typing on line.

Hope you are well

General news at the end of January

This week has been busy in my capacity as a London personal trainer and further a field as coach of the Swedish rugby team. My personal training in london is at maxmimum capacity in the evenings now as I am forced to move more clients to morning sessions and the day time.

The Rugby fitness training is taking off rapidly now both on line and for the Swedish team. With things in place I am set to go out to Sweden to meet the other coaches and key personnel before we undertake this exciting challenge.

Personally my fitness is going fantastically with some focused and aggressive stretching resolving my niggles from travelling and allowing me to really put in some quality training.

The Touch rugby in clapham common is also taking off with 20 people down there in each of the last two weeks.

Excitingly, I am about to start work with EFT therapist Judy Byrne next week which should really give me a good idea of how EFT is done from the very best in the business. She is one of only 29 EFT masters world wide.

Hope you are well

Hello in 2008

It is a little over due but Happy New Year. I have been in South America and Dubai for the majority of the last seven weeks.

This year I am focusing greatly on Personal training here in London. I have had many enquiries in the first few weeks of this year. I have had people asking for personal training across London. I am almost fully booked with personal training in the Clapham fitness first and my private personal training gym in Battersea / Wandsworth.

Rugby fitness training wise the Swedend RFU are beginning to get moving so I am looking forward to getting out there in the next couple of months as well as a many people asking me for advice and wanting to work with to improve their Rugby fitness and rugby performance

My own training has taken a smash from the trip to South America. However it feels good to be back up and running. In Dubai last week I ran slow 45 minute 13 seconds 10km. It was a little embarassing to be plodding along at that speed compared to where I was early December before I went away but it was a good expereince as it was my first competitive race. Excitingly I have made modifications to my running technique so I am absolutely flying around the athletics track. I just need to build my stamina to be able to maintain this when jogging and on the track.

Will start posting my articles on here once more as I am now back into the swing of UK life

Ben Wilson and One2one nutrition overview

Hi, I have put this entry as an overview about me for people coming on here for the first time. Thank you for reading my profile.

Location of my services

  • Personal training London

  • I am a London based personal trainer who combines exercise with nutrition and various mental strategies to ensure success. I see most of my clients for personal training in Clapham Junction Fitness First. Other facilities I use for personal training are in Battersea / Wandsworth within a private gym in my block of flats. I use the millennium arena for personal training in Battersea park. I also provide personal training on Clapham common and will see a limited number of clients for home visits. This means I can cater for your needs and provide personal training from Wimbledon to Chelsea.

  • Clients from across the globe - Work with me on line

  • I have a very high success rate attaining some great results working with people on line. The great thing about working on line with me is you do not need to one of my personal training clients in London to put in place the techniques I use. Working on line with people from New Zealand to Cyprus I have achieved some fantastic success stories

    Success stories

I have helped people lose weight, rehabilitate injuries, improve sports performance and increase their energy and health. Some of my success stories include:

  • Anu Brady - Dropped in dress size from a 16 to a 10. Anu was one of my personal training clients in London and has lost a lot of body fat and now looks great. See the photos>>>

  • Emma Goodhind - Through personal training in Clapham I helped Emma rehabilitate a broken hip in four places and a fractured spine. She went from a hospital bed to running a 10km race in 10 months. The doctors said it would take a year to walk again. Read this amazing rehabilitation success>>>

  • Gareth Mason - Lost 11kg. A ten year professional rugby player Gareth gained weight when working in the city, He has is now thinner than at any point when he was a full time professional athlete because of the metabolic typing nutrition system I use. Read about his weight loss>>>

  • Ben Wilson - ME! Using metabolic typing I managed to get rid of my asthma and allergies which I had suffered for almost 20 years. Read my story>>>>

  • The list goes on and on.........See more success stories from using metabolic typng, exercise and EFT>>>>

How do I get results with my clients?

I attain results by taking an holistic approach to achieving your goals with an emphasis on long term success.

To do this I address nutrition, exercise and the underlying mind set behind your lifestyle

  • Nutrition - Metabolic typing

  • Metabolic typing is the science of personalized nutrition. It is used to determine the exact foods your body needs. This can vary greatly from you to the next person and explains all the contradiction you see in the nutrition and diet world. Read more about metabolic typing>>>

  • Exercise - Four areas of exercise and periodization

  • I use within my personal training and philosophy four main areas of exercise. These are aerobic training, resistance training, core training and flexibility training. To ensure long term gains I then apply the little know theory called periodization. This science is concerned with how to vary your exercise routine. Used by all professional athletes the general public is losing out by not using this simple technique. Read more about exercise and periodization.

  • The mind

  • To ensure the mind is tuned for success I use amongst other methods Emotional freedom technique (EFT), the fastest growing branch of psychology today. I use it to create a mind set so that you can achieve your goals without it feeling a struggle or a constant battle. I also use some other mental strategies to aid success

A bit about me - Ben Wilson

I am someone who eats sleeps and breathe health fitness. I am a metabolic typing advisor, personal trainer and emotional freedom technique therapist (EFT). When I am not working or studying about health and fitness then I will be training myself. I run 100m and 400m while also focusing on having an ok 10km time. I play rugby though not currently as I am focusing on the former fitness goals finally I do try to ensure that when I in good enough shape to show off the six pack on the beach.

I love writing and as well as the many health and fitness articles on my website I am also author of the book Rugby fitness training: A twelve month conditioning programme.(Crowood press). I wrote this in 2005-2006 and has been one of the top selling rugby fitness books since its release. This complements my rugby fitness training website where I work with players of all standards who want to improve their performance. I am also the fitness coach for the Sweden national Rugby team and fitness director of the northlands province in Fiji.

The one passion I have outside of health and fitness is traveling. I have been round the world traveling three times.

    Thanks for getting this far!

    Off to South America

    My trip to South America

On Saturday I am off to South America for a month. It is going to be a fantastic trip. Read about the local foods I will be eating and the great places where I can do some exercise.

    Brazil - Rio de Janeiro

Rio is one of the most breath taking cities I have ever visited and I cannot wait to go back. The city is right on the beach front and after work you will see 10 000 plus people on the beach.

    Local dish - Feijoada
This is a stew of beans with various beef and pork products. It's origins come from Africa. It is prepared with black turtle beans, with a variety of salted pork and beef products such as salted pork trimmings (ears, tail, feet), bacon, smoked pork ribs, at least two types of smoked sausage and jerked beef (loin and tongue).

Exercise - Run along copacabana beach
With miles of beach and 30c plus temperatures it is perfect for stretching the legs and jogging the beach front. In the neighboring Ipanema beach there is a 10km lap around the lake. Perfect running conditions.

    Brazil - Iguazu

After Rio we will be heading to the amazing Iguazu falls where I could have a quick swim for exercise. Though looking at the picture below maybe I should take a day off and admire the views.......far safer!.

    Argentina - Buenos aires

Argentina as a country has everything from beaches to glaciers. Sadly I only have time to visit the capital and enjoy the sites it has to offer.

    Food - Churrasco or matambre

Matambre is a beef dish from Argentina. Of an Italian style, it is a rolled, flank steak filled with vegetables, eggs and herbs that is then boiled or oven-roasted. The other main dish is Churrrasco (See uruguay below)

Exercise - Jogging the down the long avenues

As the picture shows below with long straight streets it will be an easy and fun jog each morning to keep me in good shape.

    Uruguay - Montevideo

I have never been to Uruguay before and don't quite know what to expect. A country based on it's farming heritage it seems to have a bit of everything.

    Food - Churrasco

Uruguayans probably consume more beef than any other people in the world. Churrasco (grilled steak) is said to be the national dish. The dish has many offering of meat as well as steak

    Exercise - Horse riding

Uruguay is famed for it gauchos, who are real life Cowboys. Though I am not quite up to that standard yet a leisurely ride on a horse may be better suited for some exercise.

    Chile - Santiago

Santiago is at the foot hills of the Andes and it makes a striking back drop. These views must rank as one of the best sites I saw when I visited South America two years ago.

    Food -Curanto
Curanto is a stew that combines seafood, meat and vegetables. Another popular meal is beef steak with chips and eggs. Pebre, a hot sauce, is eaten with meat dishes, and bean and corn chowder (porotos granados).

Exercise - Walking in the Andes

As the photo shows the Andes are high and steep. This will allow me to get some good exercise by visiting a local hill village or walking up a peak.

    Bolivia - La paz

The highest capital city in the world Lap paz is over 3000 foot high and is itself dwarfed by the giant Andean mountain range around it. One of the poorer countries in South America it should be an interesting place.

    Food - Empandas

Empanadas are cheese, meat or shellfish pastries filled with tamales andcooked in corn husks. These meat dishes are often hot and spicy.
Exercise - Walking in the highest capital city in the world

Due to the height of the city people often have difficulty adjusting. My exercise routine will simply be walking the steep streets of this unique city

    Peru - Cuzco

High in the Andes I visited Cuzco two years ago. An amazing place with some of the friendliest people I have ever met. It is within striking distance of Machu Picchu.
Local food - Llamas and guinea pig
They may be cute and fluffy but the people of Peru love to eat llamas and guinea pig. I will give it a try though will keep thoughts of my old hamster out my mind to get me through.
    Exercise - None

With sights like the one below and New years eve celebrations there will not be time for exercise and who cares when you can visit one of the world's great tourist attractions.

    My plans for next year
In the new year I am looking to increase the amount of personal training hours now that I have finished building the strucure for my on line courses which was very time consuming.

I will be continuing to expand next year and increase the number of people I help on line .

Final note - my fitness training is coming along well. With a month of intervals behind me I have run some acceptable times, I ran 39.36minutes total time for a 10km ran in 5 X 2km bursts. Then the other day I ran 18.36 for 5km in three intervals. My month away will increase me fitness further I hope and develop everything except my sprinting which I forsee being limted.

I will keep you posted about my trip abroad

    Hope you are well
    Ben
